  What Is DeMolay?

DeMolay of the Month

Geoff Bard - December 2002

Geoff Bard

Geoff Bard, a member of Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter in Marietta, was selected as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for December 2002. Geoff serves as his Chapter's Master Councilor. He has been a member of Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter since June of 2000 and, in that time, has earned Senior Ritualist Certification. He also holds the Representative DeMolay Award and the Lamp of Knowledge. Geoff attends school at Mount Paran Christian School. We sat down with Geoff to learn a little more about him....

GDO: Geoff, congratulations on your selection as GDO's December DeMolay of the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more about you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get involved with DeMolay?

Geoff: I found out about DeMolay through my dad. He is a Senior DeMolay and really enjoyed the experience.

GDO: What do you like best about DeMolay?

Geoff led his Chapter in a successful
canned food drive last month.

Geoff: I enjoy the brotherhood, especially making friends from all over the state. I feel that the skills I am learning now will help me throughout my life.

GDO: You've been serving as Master Councilor for your Chapter for the past three months. So far this term, what has been your greatest success and your biggest challenge?

Geoff: I don't like to claim any credit for my chapter's success; it is very much a team effort. My biggest challenges have been learning to deal with difficult people and to accept criticism without taking it personally. The lessons I learned at the Georgia Leaders' Academy helped with both of these. I also have a lot of PMC's in the chapter who have been there and helped every time I have asked.

GDO: You're an REB certified Senior Ritualist. Ritual is obviously a very important aspect of DeMolay to you. Why do you feel our ceremonial work is such an important part of DeMolay?

Geoff: As Dad Land always said, the ritual is what sets DeMolay apart from other organizations. We have many beautiful ceremonies in DeMolay. In order to convey the messages [in those ceremonies,] it is important that the ritual be done well. From my earliest days in DeMolay I have enjoyed performing the ritual of our order. I want to uphold the standards that were set by outstanding ritualists such as Gary Vinson Jr., Adam Roof, and Justin Nobles.

Geoff's opinion is valued by many
high-ranking DeMolay officers.

GDO: Once your term as Master Councilor is over, what are your goals for your future in DeMolay?

Geoff: My first goal is to stay active with Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter and to help keep the chapter progressing as it has in the past few years. I also would like to go into state office and work in the state association. I don't know if I will seek elected state office in the future or not. That is too far away to consider at this time.

GDO: Outside of DeMolay, what are your other interests and activities?

Geoff: I really enjoy competitive swimming. I enjoy working with computers and would like to get into website design. And of course I enjoy meeting girls from all over!

GDO: Thank you for your time, Geoff, and congratulations again on your selection as GDO's DeMolay of the Month!

Geoff: Thank you.
