DeMolay of the Month
Ben Pierce - January 2003
Ben Pierce, a member of Clayton Chapter in Ellenwood, was selected
as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for January
2003. Ben serves as his Chapter's Chaplain and has been a member of
Clayton Chapter since April of 2002. Ben attends school at Jonesboro Middle School.
We sat down with Ben to learn a little more about him....
GDO:
Ben, congratulations on your selection as GDO's January DeMolay of
the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more about
you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get
involved with DeMolay?
Ben:
Well, I had heard about DeMolay back when I lived in Texas from being
around the Masons and Rainbow Girls. When I moved to Georgia, I was
really pumped up about getting into DeMolay because I had waited for so long to
get in. My dad got me into contact with Michael Griggers who gave me a petition
to join the Chapter.
GDO:
What do you like best about DeMolay?
Ben:
The thing I most like about DeMolay would probably be the ties that I
have with the guys. If I have just a really bad day, the guys are always
there to put an arm around your shoulder, and they are there to talk to. I
also like the togetherness and brotherhood of DeMolay.
GDO:
You're relatively new to DeMolay. Was DeMolay what you expected it
to be? What was one thing about DeMolay that you didn't know about
prior to joining, but were happy to find out was a part of the
organization?

Ben:
I thought DeMolay was going to be a whole bunch of fun with very little
work, and in a sense I was sort of right. I learned that ritual is the
most important part of the Chapter, and it should be learned [very well].
If you don't learn it, the guys will give you a tease. I find [the
DeMolay ritual] to be a pretty good experience.
GDO:
You're described by your fellow DeMolays as being "one of the most
dedicated and enthusiatic members" of your Chapter. What is it about
DeMolay that makes you want to be so dedicated and enthusiastic?
Ben:
I am most dedicated to DeMolay because I really want to do this. DeMolay is
probably the first major thing I have ever wanted to [be involved with] so
badly. I have been slacking on memorizing my ritual, though. I realy want
to show myself that I can do this, and I just try as hard as possible to do all
I can for the guys.
GDO:
What are your goals for your future in DeMolay?
Ben:
I have a goal to try to get at least 6 members in before I majority out,
but so far after eight months, I haven't gotten any [new members in] yet.
OUCH!!!
GDO:
Outside of DeMolay, what are your other interests and activities?
Ben:
I am interested in animals and nature. I especially like snakes. I also
play the tuba in my school's advanced seventh grade band. I am a licensed
amatuer radio operator, or HAM. I enjoy swimming and am thinking about
joining the track team at Jonesboro Middle School.
GDO:
Thank you for your time, Ben, and congratulations again on your
selection as GDO's DeMolay of the Month!
Ben:
Thank You! I would also like to just thank all the guys for being there
for me and for making me feel welcome, and I am going to try to keep up the
good work and not let "my crew" down.
