Stephen Bohn, a dual member of Panthersville and Clayton Chapters in Conyers and Ellenwood,
was selected as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for June
2003. Stephen has been an active member of Georgia DeMolay since March of 2000. He
has recently been elected to serve as Master Councilor of Clayton Chapter. We sat down
with Stephen to learn a little more about him....
GDO:
Stephen, congratulations on your selection as GDO's June DeMolay
of the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more
about you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get
involved with DeMolay?
Stephen:
Well I have wanted to be in DeMolay since I was about three years old....
[This was] my dad's doing as some of you may know. He worked for Dad Lovas
for a long time down in the State Office. Sometimes he would take me with
him, and that’s how I learned about it. When I turned 12, I was ready to be
initiated and also had 3 friends of mine ready to be initiated with me.
GDO:
What do you like best about DeMolay?
Stephen:
Everybody I get to meet... and they're all happy to meet me. I get around
the state a lot so I know most of the DeMolays in Georgia. For those of you
I don’t know, ask the people around you where "Goofy" is at the
next DeMolay function and they will help you find me, and I will be happy to
meet you. I also like the fact that we run our organization; I think it opens
a lot of doors to young men to learn to be leaders by helping to organize
what we do.
GDO:
Most involved with Georgia DeMolay know your nickname is "Goofy
Grapes," which was given to you years ago when you first joined
DeMolay. However, it has been noted that you have has gone from a
"goofy" guy to an emerging young leader, ready to take on numerous
leadership responsibilities in your Chapter. Explain how DeMolay has
played a role in this positive change.
Stephen:
Well "goofy" isn’t gone, but DeMolay has helped me because through
it I have developed social skills and many other traits from the Georgia
Leaders Academy. I have made many friends who believe in me and my
capabilities which has helped me with my self confidence.
GDO:
Your efforts to jump start Panthersville Chapter seem to be paying
off! Tell us what's on the horizon for the Chapter.
Stephen:
Well, at the moment I am recruiting as many young men as possible. Also,
Panthersville Lodge wants Panthersville Chapter back. So you will be
hearing about and seeing more of Panthersville Chapter soon.

Stephen fights to stay awake after a tough day at Spring Jam. It seems he's done a better job at that than his friend.

GDO:
What are your goals for your future in DeMolay?
Stephen:
I would like to become a state officer so I can help my brothers all over
the state as well as my brothers in my own chapter. I want to see DeMolay
grow in Georgia back to the numbers that it once had. I believe I could
help in some way.
GDO:
Outside of DeMolay, what are your other interests and activities?
Stephen:
ROTC and paintball.
GDO:
Thank you for your time, Stephen, and congratulations again on your
selection as GDO's DeMolay of the Month!
Stephen:
Well I thank who ever nominated me. It was very unexpected, and I hope
I can live up to the title.
