Eric Scheel, a member of Mountain Park Chapter in Stone Mountain,
was selected as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for October
2003. Eric has been an active member of Georgia DeMolay for the better part of a year. He
is currently the Junior Councilor of his chapter. We sat down with Eric to learn a little
more about him....
GDO:
Eric, congratulations on your selection as GDO's October DeMolay of the Month.
We want our web site visitors to learn a little more about you and your DeMolay
career. How did you find out about and get involved with DeMolay?
Eric:
One of my best friends, and current brother of Mountain Park, Donny Robertson, was
associated with DeMolay. After questioning him on where he would go so often, I was
informed that it was an organization for young men. I soon became more curious, asked
more questions, and thought that DeMolay would be something I'd enjoy. Therefore I
decided to join (I'm very glad I did), and within no time I was initiated.
GDO:
What do you like best about DeMolay?
Eric:
The thing I like best about DeMolay is the brotherhood. I know that I can depend on my DeMolay
brothers whenever I need them. Also, I enjoy how DeMolay has tremendously improved my
leadership and public speaking skills. This has helped me in certain classes at school,
which require these two important qualities.
GDO:
You're currently Junior Councilor of Mountain Park Chapter, one of the fastest growing
chapters in the state. What are your specific duties in that office?
Eric:
First, I'd like to say how proud I am of my chapter for the membership growth we have
had, as you mentioned. My duties as Junior Councilor are to assist the Master and Senior
Councilor whenever they need me, whether it is to plan an upcoming event, or to peform
a particicular ritual part. I am also to attend each and every meeting if possible,
opening to close. Keeping this chapter in order, while making it fun, is something else
that I try to do.
GDO:
What are your goals for your future in DeMolay?
Eric:
I have two main goals to accomplish while in DeMolay. The first is to keep my chapter
growing by bringing young men into the organization. My second is to move further up the
line, one day into state, and though I'm not trying to jump the gun, maybe a state
councilor position. I know this last goal isn't an easy one, but with much effort and
determination, I believe I can do it.
GDO:
Outside of DeMolay, what are some of your other interests and activities?
Eric:
At school, I play the viola in the orchresta. At home, I enjoy swimming and playing
football with my friends. I also collect coins, and have a wide variety of currency
from all over the world.
GDO:
Thank you for your time, Eric, and congratulations again on your selection as GDO's
DeMolay of the Month!
Eric:
Thank you, and I promise that I will take this award seriously, striving to work
harder, so that I prove that I'm deserving of this award.
