Chris takes the Representative DeMolay obligation.

Chris Somers, a member of Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter in Marietta,
was selected as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for September
2007. He has been a member of DeMolay since May of 2005 and attends Southern Polytechnic State
University. He is currently the Senior Councilor of his chapter.
We sat down with Chris to learn a little more about him....
GDO:
Chris, congratulations on your selection as GDO's September DeMolay
of the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more
about you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get
involved with DeMolay?
Chris:
Toward the end of my junior year of high school, my dad told my younger brother and me about DeMolay.
Apparently unknown to me, he was a Senior DeMolay. He had asked me to meet some of the guys and hang
out and everything went from there.
GDO:
What do you like best about DeMolay?
Chris:
What I like most is the fact that I meet guys from all over the state that share the same general ideals
and morals that I do.
GDO:
For most DeMolay members, heading off to college usually means it's the end
of being very active with DeMolay. What does DeMolay have to offer for its
older members of college age?
Chris:
Well first of all there is Knighthood for those 17 or older, which tends not to meet as often as DeMolay
chapters. Also many of the major state events are usually held on the weekends which make them easier
to go to. But you have to love the scholarships. Money for college is amazing.
GDO:
You're very active at Samuel S. Lawrence. In fact, you were recently
installed as the chapter's Senior Councilor. What are your plans with the
chapter for this term and next term?

Chris is installed as Senior Councilor. |
Chris:
As far as this term goes, most of the fund-raising activities have already been planned and there really
isn’t any time to plan one until the later part of the term. I hope to be able to do a steak dinner [for my
fund-rasier]. As far as my term goes, [there are] two main things that I would like to do. I would like to
increase my chapter’s activity with our local Masonic bodies. I would also like to increase the overall
activity of my chapter, which tends to decrease during the summer months.
GDO:
State Master Councilor Richie Eells has stated that you "go out of [your]
way to connect with the younger guys and that [you] really get brotherhood
for what it is." Tell us what DeMolay brotherhood is all about for you.
Chris:
Brotherhood to me is the fact that we are there for each other even though we may disagree. Like my brother
and I... yeah, we argue a lot and those of you that are around us understand that, but he's still my brother
and I would do anything for him. Though I have to say the best example of brotherhood that I have seen recently
was Peter Bard and Michael Benedetti [after the State Junior Councilor election during Conclave 2007]. Even though
they were running against each other they still hung out together and how Peter still congratulated Michael and
had no sour feelings towards him. That right there was, to me at least, an example of true brotherhood.
GDO:
What are your goals for your future in DeMolay?
Chris:
Do as much as I can while giving all I can back.
GDO:
Outside of DeMolay, what are some of your other interests and activities?
Chris:
Computers, mathematics, and my new major (mechatronics engineering). Other than that, just your basic stuff like
music, video games, and hanging out with friends.
GDO:
Thank you for your time, Chris, and congratulations again on your selection as GDO's
DeMolay of the Month!
Chris:
Thanks.
