Stuart Hendry, a member of Clayton Chapter in Hampton,
was selected as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for November
2007. He has been a member of DeMolay since November of 2003 and attends Luella High
School. He has served as Master Councilor of his chapter twice. We sat down with
Stuart to learn a little more about him....
GDO:
Stuart, congratulations on your selection as GDO's November DeMolay
of the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more
about you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get
involved with DeMolay?
Stuart:
My uncle Roger who is a member of Mountain Park Lodge told me about DeMolay and
encouraged me to join. He told me that he thought I would like it. He was
never a member of DeMolay but he heard about it through his membership in Masonry.
GDO:
What do you like best about DeMolay?
Stuart:
I enjoy everything that I've done with DeMolay... the meetings, masonic service
events, chapter and state activities such as chapter fun events, lock-ins, dances,
TOC, Spring Jam is a lot of fun, Conclave, etc. But what is especially important
to me is the meaning of the ritual work.
GDO:
You recently planned a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for your Chapter. Tell
us about the planning process for that event.

Stuart knows how to have fun at DeMolay events.

Stuart:
It was a lot of work but it went smoothly because I had helped my dad with a lot of similar
fund raising dinners at Hampton Lodge where he is a member. I learned a lot about giving
yourself enough time to prepare everything, how to buy the necessary food items, and getting
enough people to help make it a success. The more you plan ahead the more successful the dinner will be.
GDO:
State Master Councilor Richie Eells has stated that you are "a great
example of how older DeMolays can hang around and teach younger DeMolays the
ropes." What do you think are the first things our new members should be
taught?
Stuart:
Knowing the ritual work, understanding what it really means and how it can
help you to be a better person, and having respect for the ritual because
of its value to you.
GDO:
What are your goals for your future in DeMolay?
Stuart:
I want to stay involved with DeMolay while I'm in school and up to my 21st birthday. I will
continue to boost DeMolay any way I can, encourage membership growth, encourage members to
be more active and attend chapter meetings and activities, and do everything I can to help
DeMolay grow. After I turn 21 I will continue to promote DeMolay and encourage anyone who
is eligible to become a member.

Stuart accepts a Clayton Chapter award at Conclave.

GDO:
Outside of DeMolay, what are some of your other interests and activities?
Stuart:
I enjoy sports and have been on my school's football team. Spring Jam is always a lot of
fun for me. I like cars, working on them, restoring them and NASCAR is a lot of fun and exciting.
When I have the time I like to fish and hunt.
GDO:
Thank you for your time, Stuart, and congratulations again on your selection as GDO's
DeMolay of the Month!
Stuart:
This is a great honor for me. I've never done anything with DeMolay with the purpose of achieving
an award or recognition. Anything I do is for the purpose of helping DeMolay to succeed and grow.
Thank you very much.
