"For God, For Country, For DeMolay..."
On September 11 events occurred which have spurred many changes in our daily lives. In the wake of the horror and the heroic efforts of those who came to the aid of the victims of 9/11, many of us re-dedicated ourselves to the ideals DeMolay professes. Love of our family, camaraderie, trust, honor, and most importantly patriotism. Let us take a moment to remember the loss our Country had to bear. Let us also remember what our Order teaches. Do not let the light of our teachings, and our national ideals, be blotted out by any attack. Whether it be by terrorists, or the daily challenges we face.
Let me urge you again to live your life as a dedicated young man. Live as a concerned citizen; never be too tall to stoop to help those in need. As it says in our Nine O'clock Interpolation:
We ask Thy benediction upon all who labor for the relief of suffering and need. May we ever realize that we are brothers of the helpless and suffering and rejoice to every call to the relief of pain or the alleviation of sorrow. Wilt Thou help us to lead upright and patriotic lives worthy of the devotion of all who have labored for our beloved country in every field of sacrifice and service.
I hope that these words ring true in your actions everyday. However, it is especially appropriate for them to show on September 11. Let us live lives worthy of our Order and our Country. The attacks were an atrocity and taught us an important lesson: When we come together and stand united there is no obstacle we cannot overcome. There is no goal we cannot accomplish. There is no task we cannot complete. Stand together as DeMolays as we reverently observe the first anniversary of this tragedy and we will make it through.
