- Duties of Officers
- The Illustrious Knight Commander, in addition to the duties outlined
in the Ritual of the Order of Knighthood, shall have the following
duties:
- He shall preside at all state functions.
- He shall chair at all meetings of the State Priory of
Georgia.
- He shall appoint all committees and supervise their
activities in an effort to see that all projects planned by
the State Priory are carried out to the fullest potential.
- He shall have the authority to represent this organization
at any meeting of the Order of DeMolay and at any meeting
where a representative of this organization is required, or
may send a representative.
- He shall, with the assistance of the Knighthood Coordinator,
plan and hold a Joust every year.
- The Squire Commander, in addition to the duties outlined in the
Ritual of the Order of Knighthood, shall have the following duties:
- He shall execute the duties of the Illustrious Knight
Commander in his absence or in the event of his death,
illness, or inability to serve.
- He shall be in charge of Squires at all Jousts.
- The Page Commander, in addition to the duties outlined in the
Ritual of the Order of Knighthood, shall have the following duties:
- He shall be the authority on the interpretation of the
By-Laws of the State Priory of Georgia with the concurrence
of the Director of Appendant Bodies and the Statutes of the
International Supreme Council.
- He shall be responsible for and shall make all decisions
concerning the observance of parliamentary procedure
according to Robert's Rules of Order.
- He shall execute the duties of the Illustrious Knight
Commander in the event that he and the Squire Commander are
unable to serve.
- He shall provide for maintaining instruction and education
of the State Priory of Georgia or delegation thereof.
- He shall be in charge of refreshment at the Jousts.
- The Registrar, in addition to the duties outlined in the Ritual of
the Order of Knighthood, shall have the following duties:
- He shall keep an accurate record of the proceedings of the
meetings of this organization and shall submit his record to
the Illustrious Knight Commander for his approval.
- He shall keep all membership records and shall file
committee reports which are submitted to the Illustrious
Knight Commander.
- He shall handle all correspondence of this organization.
- He shall be responsible for receiving the Papers of
Candidacy from all candidates campaigning for office.
- General Membership: All active DeMolays in good standing who are at
least seventeen years old are eligible for Investiture, subject to
approval of the Executive Officer for the Jurisdiction of Georgia.
- Encampments
- Purpose of Encampments:
- To promote DeMolay,
- To promote closer association of Knights within local
areas, and
- To stimulate interest in Knighthood.
- Formation of Encampments:
- A local body of Active Sir Knights wishing to form an
Encampment must be at least seven (7) in number.
- The local body must have the sponsorship of at least one (1)
DeMolay Advisor.
- The local body and its sponsor must petition the State
Priory to receive its Letters of Authority.
- Encampment Leadership
- The Encampment Commander shall be elected at the Encampment's
first meeting and must be an active Sir Knight in good
standing. The Encampment Commander may not also be the
Illustrious Knight Commander, Squire Commander, or Page
Commander.
- The term of office is one (1) year, corresponding to the
term of office for officers of the State Priory of Georgia.
- The Encampment Commander can not hold office for more than
two (2) consecutive terms and three (3) total terms.
- Membership: Membership shall be available to all Sir Knights of the
State Priory of Georgia.
- Privileges: Each Encampment may perform the following tasks at
their own discretion insofar as they do not violate the Statutes of
the International Supreme Councilof the Order of DeMolay, the
By-Laws of the State Priory of Georgia or its subsequent amendments:
- Call meetings, and
- Aid and assist local DeMolay activity, if so requested.
- Requirements: Each Encampment must adhere to the following
requirements:
- Abide by the By-Laws, Edicts, and Regulations of the State
Priory of Georgia, the Director of Appendant Bodies, and the
Executive Officer of the Jurisdiction of Georgia.
- Hold elections and conduct meetings necessary for that
Encampment.
- Encampments should review their records of the members and
Chapters included in their membership annually.
- Restrictions:
- No Investitures shall be performed by an Encampment except
for the purpose of practice.
- No Encampment shall be authorized to bind the State Priory
of Georgia to any transaction or activity whatsoever.
- All Encampments shall operate under the jurisdiction of the State
Priory of Georgia and all other controlling bodies thereof.
- Election Procedure
- Papers of Candidacy: In order to be eligible for an elective office,
a Sir Knight must submit to the Registrar and the Director of
Appendant Bodies a signed statement proving that he has met all
requirements outlined in the By-Laws of the State Priory of Georgia
at least two weeks prior to the election. Any candidate wishing to
change the office for which he has filed may do so by sending
written request and approval of the local advisor to the Registrar
prior to the election. The Registrar shall submit a report of the
qualifications of the candidate to the Illustrious Knight Commander
and the Executive Officer of the Associated DeMolay Chapters of
Georgia.
- In the event of an uncontested office, the Registrar shall receive
nominations from the floor. Papers of candidacy shall be waived,
although proof of qualifications and advisor approval must be
assured. If two or more candidates are nominated, the Registrar
shall immediately hold a run-off between the new candidates. The
winner of the run-off shall run against the pre-filed candidate
according to normal election procedures. If no new candidates are
nominated from the floor, the pre-filed candidate may be elected
through a motion of election by acclamation.
- The elections of the State Priory of Georgia shall be held at the
annual Tournament of Champions of the Associated DeMolay Chapters of
Georgia.
- Campaign speeches not to exceed two minutes shall be given to the
General Assembly of Sir Knights.
- A plurality of the votes cast shall determine the winner.
- The elective officers shall collectively determine the appointive
officers. These decisions are subject to approval by the
Illustrious Knight Commander Elect.
- The elective and appointive officers shall be installed as outlined
in the "Service Of Installation" found in the Ritual of the Order of
Knighthood, page 27. The Installation shall be held at the DeMolay
Tournament of Champions or at another time decided appropriate by
the State Priory of Georgia.
- A Sir Knight may not hold an Elected office in the State Association
and in the State Priory concurrently. An elected officer in the
State Priory of Georgia must submit a letter of resignation to the
Priory Advisor pending election to an office in the State
Association. This resignation must be submitted at the same time
the Letter of Intent is submitted to the State Association.
- The Illustrious Knight Commander may not hold any other elective
office in any DeMolay Chapter or Association.
These Bylaws as approved by the members of the State Priory of Georgia on
this 27th day of January, in the year of our Lord 1989, are hereby submitted
to Dad Andre E. Lovas, Active Member of the International Supreme Council of
the Order of DeMolay and Executive Officer of the Jurisdiction of Georgia for
his approval.

These By-Laws as amended and approved by the members of the State Priory of
Georgia on this First day of August, in the year of our Lord 1992, are
hereby submitted to Dad Andre E. Lovas, Active Member of the International
Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay and Executive Officer of the
Jurisdiction of Georgia, for his approval.

Amendments
Amendment I- Eligibility for Investiture
With approval of the Executive Officer for the Jurisdiction of Georgia, a
sixteen year old DeMolay may be Invested if his birthday falls within one
calendar month of the date on which the Investiture is commenced with no
exceptions. (For example, if the investiture is on July 23, the DeMolay's
seventeenth birthday must fall on or before August 23 (of the same year).)
