From the State Parents' Club Coordinator:
Hello Everyone,
This has been a very hard article to write. There has been much pain and loss in our nation with the events of September 11 in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Our thoughts and prayers are with those families that lost loved ones. We know that their lives will never be the same. I had delayed writing my article in the first place because the State Master Councilor's Reception was to be held on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at the Yaarab Shrine Center in Atlanta. I wanted to report to all of those who were not in attendance about the great time missed. I knew State Master Councilor, Justin Nobles, would do something special for the evening. I had no idea of the horrible events of Tuesday, but Justin came through, even at a time to celebrate, to help with the needs of those who had been so devastated. He started a collection that will be sent to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief effort. It started with an empty can and after all was said and done, there was quite a nice sum of money raised throughout the evening. The cause was further helped by the fulfillment of promises made at Conclave concerning the "Bikes for Kids" program and something about a certain magic number of bikes and certain State Officers losing their hair. (And they say girls are picky about their hair!) The Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter and Parents' Club did a fine job with the food and decorations. The banner everyone signed, to be sent to New York, will show how much all involved with Georgia DeMolay take seriously the ideals set forth by its founder some eighty-two years ago. As we go about our every-day lives, continue to remember those most closely touched by the events of last week. Continue to pray for our nation!
I still have not received a bill for our "Trunk Store" at Conclave. I will let you know the results of our efforts as soon as I know. (Remember patience is a virtue).
The next event that the State Parents' Club has a major role in will be the Holiday Formal, which is slated to take place on December 1. The location has yet to be determined. I am asking each group to help with the decorations by decorating one table, using a holiday theme. In addition, I am asking each group to bring some of the each of the following items: Finger foods, chips and dips, cakes and cookies, candies and fruit and dips. That means each group should have someone in your group bring chips and someone else bring dip. Have someone bring a plate of small sandwiches and have another person bring a cake. Have one person bring a can of nuts and someone else should bring some fruit for a fruit tray. These are examples of some of the ways to divide the list. We will put whatever food we get together when we get to the Holiday Formal on December 1. If your group would like to furnish soft drinks instead of the other items, let me know. Let me know what you think about doing stockings for the State Officers and State Sweetheart. I need to know by the middle of November so I can let every one know.
I would like for the members of the fundraising committee that were appointed at Conclave, for the tee shirts for the Chapters project, to plan to have a meeting at the Holiday Formal. We need to have a meeting in order to get the ball rolling if we want to have the shirts to all groups by Spring Jamboree, which is in May.
If I can be of assistance to any of you, don't hesitate to give me a call at home or at work. Talk to you soon.
In DeMolay Love,
Mom Lorna Bush
