DeMolay International 2006
SEATTLE, WA - On June 15-17 the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay and the DeMolay Congress convened in Seattle for the annual session. The session was a fun one, with Brothers Steve Ashman and Matthew Ross presiding over the Congress, and Dad Jeff Chretien leading the International Supreme Council. Much work was accomplished in Committee meetings; however, most of the interest was generated by two call items in particular. Discussion of these call items will be discussed later in the forums later today, and as always, we welcome the input of all members and advisors. The first call item is the previously discussed item that would have mandated a strict majority at age 21, regardless of office. The two Georgia Delegates opposed this piece of legislation, and the item was defeated in both Congress and the International Supreme Council. The second piece of legislation would create a Civic Legion of Honor, which could have been given to Non-Masons and Non Senior-DeMolays. The two Georgia Delegates supported this legislation, and spoke in favor of it on the floor of Congress. However, the item was defeated by both Congress and the Supreme Council.
In addition to legislation, honors nominations were approved; those approved should be receiving their letters soon. Dad James Bard, the State Chapter Dad and Director of State Events, was elected as a Deputy Member of the International Supreme Council. Also Brother Richard Eells was invited to present a seminar on effective communication as an expert.
Both bodies also held elections of office. Congress elected Brother James Conner, II of Oregon to serve as the 40th International Master Councilor, and Brother Nate Stallings of Virginia to serve as the 40th International Congress Secretary. As for the Supreme Council, Dad Keith K Klein of Indiana was elected to serve as the 75th Grand Master of DeMolay International. Dad Patton Hart of Kentucky was elected Grand Senior Councilor, and Dad Mike Watson of Ohio was elected Grand Junior Councilor. In addition, Dad Richard Lynn of Florida was elected as Region III Representative. Congratulations to all, we are looking forward to next year's session, which will be in St. Louis.
