Grand Masters Class a Smashing Success!
ATLANTA, GA -
Georgia DeMolay held its annual Initiation in honor of the Grand Master of Masons in Georgia on April 14 as in past years this event was sponsored by the Leon P. Edmondson Court of Chevaliers in Atlanta. The day began with the Georgia DeMolay Spring Senate, a measure instituted this year to give the Chapters and members of Georgia DeMolay a greater say in the conduct of various State activities and policies. Several issues were discussed, committees formed, and votes taken. Following the Senate members of the degree teams adjourned to practice for the initiation that was come in the afternoon.
Occuring simultaneously with the Senate, Dad Larry Griggers conducted a DAD training class, training 4 new advisors to help serve Georgia DeMolay A luncheon was provided by the Sweethearts from around the State, led by State Sweetheart Jessica Nobles. Jessica was joined by Tabitha Wheeler from Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter and Khrystle Rader from Peachtree City Chapter and all were aided by members of the State Parents Club and Sweetheart Coordinator Mom Kim May. The luncheon was an effort to raise fund for the Jenny Lind Pettys Scholarship Fund and succeeded in raising about $240.
Finally, the ceremonies commenced after lunch. Georgia DeMolay was proud to welcome 14 new members to ranks of active DeMolays in Georgia, most notable were 5 new members each from Columbus and Albany Chapters, as well as new members from Don R. Roberts, Middle Georgia, and Clayton Chapters. An added plus to the day came with the further growth of our Honorary Senior DeMolay program as 13 Master Masons joined the ranks of George Washington's Chapter. The Intiatory Degree was performed by an all-star cast of active DeMolays from around the state. The DeMolay Degree was, as in past years performed by the Chevalier Court and featured an outstanding team of Chevaliers assembled under the direction of Edmondson Court Commander Michael Griggers.
The day was made even more special by the presence of the Grand Master of Masons, Eli A. Stafford, who welcomed all the new members to DeMolay and presented them with his Grand Masters coin. The Grand Master complimented both degree teams on a job well done and spoke about planting trees at the George Washington National Masonic Monument in honor of Georgia's Masonic Youth groups.
