Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter Works at the Peachtree Road Race
ATLANTA, GA - It is an Atlanta tradition. Every 4th of July, rain or shine, thousands of dedicated and not-so-dedicated runners from all over the country line up at Lenox Mall and begin the 6.2 mile course down Peachtree Rd to Piedmont Park. For the past couple of years the members of Fulton Lodge #216 have manned a water stop in front of the Atlanta Masonic Center, which is very near the 5 mile mark on the course. Thousands of weary runners grab a much needed cup of water, express their thanks to the workers and continue on their way.
This year in response to an offer by Mr. Frank Vexler, the members of Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter volunteered to help with this project. Getting up and arriving at the Masonic Center before 7 AM was no easy task for the DeMolays who came and helped, but they did it gladly and had fun while they were there, at one point even assisting Mr. Vexler in a water fight with some of the Masons at the end of the morning.
