Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter Claims Traveling Gavel
PEACHTREE CITY, GA - At his installation two weekends ago, Master Councilor Jake Somers said he wanted to see
Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter be more active in chapter visitations. He has started out his term by being true to
those words. On August 13, six members and two advisors made the trip from Marietta to Peachtree City to attend
the Peachtree City Chapter meeting and claim the Traveling Gavel. The Traveling Gavel and Gold Brick
program is designed to promote visitations between the chapters of Georgia DeMolay. At the recent State Conclave, the
gavel was awarded to Peachtree City for having the highest percentage of their membership in attendance. In order to
claim the Gavel from Peachtree City, a chapter must have at least five DeMolays and one advisor travel to a stated
chapter meeting in Peachtree City. The not-so-coveted companion to the Gavel, the Gold Brick, currently resides at
Clayton Chapter. To rid themselves of the Brick the chapter must take the Brick, five members, and one advisor
and drop it off at another chapter's stated meeting. Clayton Chapter "won" the Gold Brick by being the last
chapter to register for Conclave.

Peachtree City Master Councilor Michael Benedetti reluctantly
surrenders the gavel to Samuel S. Lawrence Master Councilor Jake Somers.
