Four Initiated at 700-Year Celebration
ATLANTA, GA - Saturday, October 13, 2007 marked the 700th anniversary of
Friday, October 13, 1307. This day was credited with starting the infamy that continues
to surround any "Friday the 13th." The historic event of this day was the beginning of a series of events
that would lead to the end of Templars and ultimately to the creation of
the Order of DeMolay. Jacques DeMolay, the namesake of the Order of DeMolay, and
his preceptors were imprisoned and tortured for seven years beginning on October
13, 1307. Throughout the years of torture and trials, DeMolay refused to confess to
the charges levied against him and died because of it, making him a martyr once absolved
of the accusations. Seven hundred years later, Georgia DeMolay and Georgia Knights Templar
joined together to remember this tragic event in European history. Georgia DeMolay conferred
the degrees of the Order of DeMolay, initiating four young men to carry the name of
DeMolay. In addition, 20 adults were initiated into the George Washington's Alumni Chapter.
Following the initiation, the Georgia Chevalier Association performed a stunning DeMolay Degree,
depicting the last trial of Jacques DeMolay and his followers. The day concluded with a
presentation on the plaque placed by the Order of DeMolay on the island where Jacques DeMolay was burned
at the stake.

State Master Councilor Richard Eells confers the obligations of the Initiation.
