ANAHEIM, CA - State Master Councilor Richard Eells, Georgia's Senior Delegate to the International DeMolay
Congress Session, was nominated for the office of International Master Councilor on the afternoon of June 19 by
Ben Turconi from Northern California. That nomination was seconded by Justin Woods from Missouri. Eells began
his campaign for International Master Councilor just one day previously. The election for International Master
Councilor will be Friday evening, June 20.
During his nomination speech, Turconi expressed his desire for the delegates of the Congress to make the right
choice for its next International Master Councilor. "Another great talent of Richard's is his ability to see
the big picture, and successfully bring together a coalition of people devoted to seeing the best that DeMolay
can achieve." Woods, during his speech to second the nomination, spoke of Eells' qualities that make him well-suited
for the job. "I believe that he has the drive for success and passion for DeMolay that we need to take us into
the future; and to insure its continuation as a positive place for young men by young men."
Eells accepted the nomination humbly, beginning by highlighting the changes that have occurred in the world since DeMolay
was founded in 1919. "There was once a point in our history when [the seven cardinal] virtues were the status
quo and marked a proper upbringing," he stated. "Sadly, much of the world has moved on, but for us, as members
of the Order of DeMolay, our commitment to the virtues that are the heritage of our fraternity is unchanged."
His goals for the term of International Master Councilor highlight remaining true to the fundamental precepts of
DeMolay. "The foundation for my outlook is simple: to update the methods, while remaining true to our virtues."
He added, "With our world shifting to a brisker pace, and unforeseen challenges presenting themselves, we as
an order must allow ourselves to be flexible in our methods and open to changes while remaining true, dedicated,
and steadfast to our virtues." Eells spotlighted technology as a medium to meet the goals of DeMolay, highlighting
his work on the DeMolay International web site and his use of the internet to reach his constituents during his
term as State Master Councilor of Georgia. His membership plans involve using enthusiasm, not desperation, to
attract new members. Ultimately, the goal of teamwork was the interconnecting thread of his platform.
"The challenges that lay ahead can be dwarfed and eliminated by working together as an effective team that I
know is passionate for this great order."
