It was with great enthusiasm and anticipation that a delegation from Georgia flew to Denver, Colorado for the 37th Session of the DeMolay International Congress and the 84th Session of the International Supreme Council on June 16-19, 2004. It was unusually special because our State Master Councilor, Chris Eells, was a candidate for International Master Councilor.

State Chaplain Geoff Bard, State Senior Councilor Jackie Moody, Mom and Dad Bohn arrive at the Doubleday Inn at the conference center ready to check in. Chris and State Senior Steward Todd Stovall had arrived on an earlier flight.

There were DeMolays from all over the country and overseas. Excitement built quickly as the prospect of meeting brothers from around the world loomed near.

Registration of the hundreds of delegates, advisors and guests went without a cinch. You can tell the DeMolay International staff know their stuff.

Chris wastes no time in getting started with his politicking. This is where Chris is in his element. He has a gift for gab.

These young men are the cream of the crop. You must be a State Master Councilor or State Senior Councilor to be a voting delegate. These guys are the best of the best!

You have to have vision and know how to articulate that vision to gain the trust of these DeMolays. The challenges and rewards of being SMC in Georgia have matured Chris considerably and he moves with confidence among the delegates.

Georgia has formed some strong bonds with the DeMolay Jurisdiction of Southern California, and Matt McKinney, the State Master Councilor of Southern California, nominates Chris for the highest elected position in the Order of DeMolay: International Master Councilor.

Kyle Murphy, the State Master Councilor of Colorado, which was the host state for the International Congress, seconded Chris' nomination. Both the nominator and seconder had high praise for Georgia's native son and did a good job of highlighting his strong points.

"I gave it my best shot!" Chris is upbeat after delivering his campaign speech. There is much campaigning to do and the glad-handing will continue non-stop until the election.

Georgia's presence at Conclave was also notable in that our State Chaplain, Geoff Bard, was asked by International Master Councilor Peter Brusoe to serve as the official Chaplain for the 37th International Congress. Geoff did an outstanding job. After delivering a prayer, State Chapter Dad Larry Griggers, who was sitting at a table with some Oklahoma delegates, overheard them saying "That was one of the best prayers I have ever heard at one of these events."
