First timers are especially nervous about coming to the Tournament of Champions and are a bundle of nerves. It's always comforting to have a friend nearby to calm you down.
When you have a Past Grand Master like Bobby Simmons and the son of a Past Executive Officer like Andre Lovas judging the public ceremonies competition, there is room to get nervous!
Don't let him fool you, the resident historian of Cecil Cheves Chapter, Dad Hugh D'Anna, is digging back into his memory banks trying to figure out which is the oldest chapter, Cecil Cheves or Columbus. He always shuts his eyes for heavy brain work like this.
"Z," from Mountain Park Chapter, had a brilliant idea and recorded his lines on a CD where he could listen to them in preparation for the competition. Isn't that just great! It's dedication like this that really sets these guys apart. Other teenagers would probably be listening to rap music and destroying their brains, but not our "Z!"

Jake and Mikel are ready to go. This is Mikel's first TOC and he is competing for Rookie of the Year.
"Jacques DeMolay beware!" says State Junior Councilor Michael Griggers as he performs the role of Master Inquisitor for judges Gary Lemmons and Dana Schwarz. This year TOC provided an opportunity for the guys to compete in several major speaking parts from the Initiatory and DeMolay degrees.
