Georgia DeMolay
Georgia DeMolay Connections
March 2007
The Advisor’s Retreat and Conference has been tentatively scheduled for May 19 & 20, 2007. The agenda will center around giving the advisors an update from each of the Directors on the EOSC. Each Director will lead discussions pertaining to their area of responsibility. Since the agenda has not been completely laid out, you have an opportunity to add items that you would like to discuss with advisors from around the state and the Executive Officer. Please send an e-mail to eo@gademolay.org with your suggestions.
We will also schedule some social time for you to get acquainted with our many new advisors, get re-acquainted with some old friends, and to just discuss or exchange ideas.
All registered Georgia DeMolay Advisors are invited and encouraged to attend. Please mark your calendars today. Registration materials and details will be coming out soon.

Executive Officer’s Steering Committee (EOSC)

Dad Charles (Charlie) Reed has been named by Executive Officer Dad Marc Bohn to the position of Director of Risk Management—serving on the EOSC. Dad Reed is a Senior DeMolay from Albany Chapter where he is currently serving (as he puts it) his second tour as an advisor.  Dad Reed has been involved with DeMolay, in one way or another, for over 50 years.

As Director of Risk Management, Dad Reed will be responsible for helping Georgia DeMolay establish policies that will keep insured risk to a minimum.  He will also make sure that we adhere to those and the youth protection policies set forth by International Supreme Council.  We welcome Dad Reed and wish him the best of success in his new position.

Congratulations to these chapters and their new members.

Georgia Leader’s Academy Held
The Georgia Leader’s Academy was held March 9—11 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia. Twelve participants were involved in the program and several commented about the how valuable the information was and the fun way it was presented. If your chapter had an attendee at this last session, be sure to take advantage of their new skills. I know they’re anxious to use them.
Each attendee received a “Not-so-el-cheapo Prize”, a t-shirt, and a certificate of completion. Coming in the mail to them soon will be the “DeMolay Program Planning Guide” and the “DeMolay Membership Planning Guide & Idea Book” - great tools to help their chapters be successful.
If you missed this session you missed a great time. Another session will be scheduled in the fall, if there is enough need and interest.
We are making a session available to the Parent’s Club and Sweethearts. If you are interested in attending this special session, please let Mom Sue Stovall know about it so we can get it scheduled.

The Chevaliers of Georgia are once again sponsoring the Grand Master’s Class on April 14, 2007 at the Atlanta Masonic Center.  The Grand Master will be present to bring greetings.

The Initiatory and DeMolay Degrees will be conferred on candidates for active membership from around the state as well as on Master Masons wishing to become an “Honorary Senior DeMolay” in George Washington’s DeMolay Alumni Chapter.  The Initiatory Degree will be presented by a select team of DeMolays who proved their proficiency at the recent Tournament of Champions.  The DeMolay Degree will be performed by the members of the Leon P. Edmondson and Lester Michels Courts of Chevaliers.  The ritualistic work at this special event will be outstanding.

The itinerary for the day will start with lunch at 12:00 noon.  The Initiatory Degree will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the DeMolay Degree which we expect to start at 3:00 p.m.  Dress for the day will be coat and tie.

Please make it a point to attend this very special occasion.  DeMolay Chapters should double their efforts to find young men to become a part of DeMolay at this extraordinary event.

Getting Ready for Conclave?
Conclave 2007 is just around the corner, is your chapter ready?
Remember, in order to vote at conclave the active members or chapter delegates have got be proficient in their queries and in possession of an Obligation Card.
Now is the time to begin getting the non-proficient members of your chapter ready to go!
The cost of conclave has yet to be determined for this year but should be around the same as last year. Will the costs be born solely by the chapter members and their parents or will your chapter be able to help out to some degree? Now is the time to schedule fund raisers or NASCAR time to help with these costs.
Finally Conclave this year will be held at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, from July 26-29. The planning for the event is still in the early phases but it looks as if we are going to have another great event.....don't miss it!
Sincerely and fraternally,

Georgia DeMolay adult volunteers and members just completed another successful fundraising effort at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Having done this for almost 3 years, we’re starting to get better at it. Projects like this require extraordinary effort from many people—more than can be reasonably covered in this article and they all deserve our thanks. We would like to extend a special thank you to several people who went above and beyond the call to make this project successful. Their names appear to the left.
Special thanks also go out to :
Mom Sue Stovall and the members of the State Parents Club that organized the food preparation and service to all of our field workers.
Hampton Lodge #70 for the use of their building for cooking and sleeping facilities.
Barry Brooks for not only donating time to the effort, but also donating his building to house some of our volunteers during the weekend of the race.
Mom Daryl Woodard for flying in from West Palm Beach Florida to fill in volunteer gaps
If everything goes according to plan, chapters should expect that checks from this race will be distributed at Spring Jam.
